SSD with Data Caching
What is a solid-state drive (SSD)? What is SSD caching and how does it work? Discover the basic advantages of hosting your Internet sites on an SSD-powered server.
A solid-state drive is really faster than any regular hard-disk drive. The reason is that an HDD works by using spinning disks, which can rotate only so fast and the more information is read and written, the sluggish and hotter they become, at the same time an SDD uses modules of flash memory, so there are no physically moving components. The access speeds for an SSD are much higher, which makes this type of drives the right solution if speed is needed. That's why SSDs are often used for the Operating System on a personal computer and for saving data that's accessed regularly on hosting servers. A lot of providers also use a combination of both drives, so they save the data on hard disk drives, but they use a couple of SSDs in order to cache the more often used data and because of that, the data loads much quicker while the load on the HDDs is decreased as their disks have to spin less often to read and write.
SSD with Data Caching in Web Hosting
In case you host your sites in a web hosting account from us, you'll definitely notice their exceptional performance. The reason is that our cloud platform uses exclusively SSD drives for all the files, e-mails and databases and we don't use HDDs for any part of the Internet hosting service. In addition to the cutting-edge ZFS file system, this configuration will increase the speed of your Internet sites significantly. For load-balancing, we also use multiple SSDs for caching purposes only. All content that generates increased traffic or creates a lot of reading/writing processes is copied on them promptly, so the load on the main drives will be reduced, thus the overall performance of all Internet sites hosted with us will be better. This in turn prolongs the life of the main drives and lessens the possibility of a disk failure, which is an additional guarantee for the reliability of all content which you upload to your account.
